Founder's Letter Vol 2
April, 2024
Hey you!
I felt it is a great time to give an update on what is going on in HypeHype since the previous letter.
The first letter laid down the overall vision of what HypeHype is about and I am so happy to say that today we are already close to that vision. It is amazing to see that the top games in HypeHype are on par with standalone app store mobile games made with Unity and other PC tools. And all these HypeHype games were made with mobile devices inside the HypeHype app. Shoutout to the amazing creators behind these games!
Today I am excited to announce the start of creator monetization in HypeHype! From this day your games will monetize automatically based on their player engagement, and, optionally, you can start adding your own in-game purchases to your games. Read more in the Creator Earning section.
We also introduced a brand new metrics page for each game where you can view all the important player engagement and monetization metrics from not just your own games but any game inside HypeHype. This helps you to understand so much faster what works and what not. You can also watch replays of players playing your game which are incredibly useful for improving your games.
In addition to above, we have made tons of improvements to the editor enabling you to make better games even faster. This is a huge focus to us as we are devoted to making HypeHype the best tool and engine to make and publish mobile games for both new creators and existing gamedevs.
I totally understand that for an existing gamedev using Unity, Unreal Engine or other PC tool a mobile-first designed game engine/editor might sound weird. This is why we provide a PC/Mac version as well and a Slack invite with a dedicated DM support to help you to both get started and go deep. We have also made dedicated guides for gamedevs familiar with other PC tools. Check out our Game Development section for more details e.g., about our world-class mobile-first custom renderer and other details. I can promise you that there is no faster way to test your game idea with real players than with HypeHype. After you have tested your game idea you are totally free to build the game elsewhere as well and/or keep using HypeHype and start monetizing.
The true power of HypeHype definitely lies on mobile devices where you can iterate your game faster than anywhere else using the same device your game is played with. This is exactly how we also built our first game Badland (2013) - all its levels were created on mobile with a mobile editor.
With the just introduced creator monetization now is the perfect time to jump in and make the first hit games. HypeHype is still in Early Access in limited countries but global is coming! See you in the Top Charts!
